Become a member of the Macaulay Clan in Australia

The Macaulay Clan in Australia celebrates the name Macaulay in Australia and New Zealand. There are a number of spellings of the name but whatever spelling you use, you are invited to join the Clan. In fact you do not need to have the Macaulay name as long as you have a descendent with the Macaulay name. We always welcome new members to the Macaulay Clan in Australia and especially welcome you to our Clan Gatherings.

What happens at a Clan Gathering ?

Literally fun for the whole family. A different town or city is chosen every year. Being a member of the Clan does not oblige you to participate. However, if it fits in with a time that suits you, it will be worthwhile to join in. We meet and greet over an informal dinner on the Friday night and next morning starts with the annual general meeting where future plans are made. Then the business is over and the fun really starts. You have opportunities to join in on the group trip to the local sights, explore the local area on your own, or participate in the Australia versus New Zealand golf tournament at the local golf club until the banquet and Caileigh that evening. A Caileigh is a party and family members have a history of entertaining each other with skits, singing, poetry reading, slide shows (particularly of overseas Clan gatherings visited, or recent family history research) and even pipes and drums.

These Clan Gatherings are a marvellous way to learn of and meet people in your extended family and, being a Scottish descended family, we get to experience opportunities that people of other heritages do not. This is special and unique, especially for the younger members. At the Caileigh there is the piping in of the haggis (that curious Scottish delicacy) and the addressing of the haggis using the ever-enduring poetry of the Scottish poet Robbie Burns.

Sunday is a less formal brunch barbeque before we scatter again to our respective homes.
